When it comes to enrollment, especially online, students and parents who are looking into taking an online course for the first time have questions. Below you will find answers to our most common questions we get regarding enrollment.
Watch this short video to see how online learning works at Market Square.
We get this question a lot. And the answer is very simple! You (the student) are trying to launch your class from your guardian’s account. To launch your course you must be in your own Genius account as parent accounts can not launch courses. You received an email titled, “Genius SIS Account Creation Notification” with all the information needed to set up your Genius account. Please check your spam or junk folder if it wasn’t in your inbox. Still don’t see it? Contact us.
What this quick video about it below.
Asynchronous indicates that there is no live class time that your student needs to meet with a teacher. All materials to complete the course are provided online.
Because our classes are asynchronous online classes, your student can move through the material at their own pace. Your student could complete the semester’s material in less than 18 weeks. We add due dates to help students stay on track. They are only guidelines. Students need to email us if they want to accelerate through the course so their due dates can be adjusted.
Yes. If your student does not finish the semester in the allotted 18 weeks, extensions are available. An extension is $100 for 2 weeks.
Because our classes are asynchronous, your student can start any time. Even in the summer. We don’t have waiting lists or designated start and end dates. You don’t need to register well in advance. Just register when your student is ready to start.
No. Once your student completes the first semester, you can register for the second semester.
Yes. If your student only needs to take one semester of a two semester class, that is fine. For example: your student took Algebra 1 semester 1 at their school. They only need to take semester 2. You can register for ONLY semester 2. They do not need to take both semesters if only one is needed.
Registrations are approved on weekdays at 8 am and 4 pm. If you register in the evening or on the weekend, the registration will be approved the next business day. Don’t register more than 1 day ahead of when you want to start.
CR means Credit Recovery. It is only available to students that have failed the course and need to replace the credit lost by failing. The student only receives the credit and does not receive a letter grade. It is graded on a pass/fail basis.
RE means Regular. It is the full, regular version of the course. Each semester is .5 credit, and the student would receive a letter grade.
H means Honors. It is the Honors-level version of the course. The coursework is more intensive, and the student receives an Honors designation on their transcript. Each semester is .5 credit.
ALE means Alternative Learning Experience. It is full time online public schooling available to Washington State students. Your student would transfer to one of our partner districts and be assigned a teacher advocate that would monitor their progress.
Yes! Because our classes are asynchronous, they are flexible and can be worked around your student’s other schedules.
Because our classes are asynchronous, and can start any time, they can be started and completed over the summer.
