Most students taking classes take regular (RE) courses. Credit Recovery (CR) is our second most popular type of credit.
Regular Education (RE)
Taking a new course or retaking the same course to improve a grade.
The majority of classes are considered regular education classes because they are basic in nature and meet state requirements for graduation. Regular courses are given letter grades unless NWLS receives a written request within 10 business days of the start of the course to be graded on a pass/fail basis.
Credit Recovery (CR)
Making up a failed course.
If a student fails a class, he or she is eligible for a credit recovery class, which is graded on a pass/fail and does not affect the student’s GPA. Students must earn at least 70% and complete all tests to successfully complete the course. Please note that credit recovery is different from replacing the grade on your transcript with a different grade. In order to replace the grade, the student must retake the same class at the same level.
Honors (HR)
Courses with an honors designation are more rigorous than regular education classes. These courses typically require more in-depth knowledge, thought, critical thinking, and composition skills. They meet the state requirements for graduation and are given letter grades unless Market Square Education receives a written request within 10 business days of the start of the course to be graded on a pass/fail basis.
Advanced Placement (AP)
Courses meet higher-education expectations of college-level courses and prepare students to demonstrate achievement through success on the AP exams. Courses target highly motivated students who are reading at, or preferably above, grade level and who have a track record of success in high school courses. If students elect to take the AP exam in May and pass the exam, it is possible a university will award credit for the course. The university attended solely decides college credit awarded. All AP courses require additional materials and/or costs. Market Square Education is pleased to offer a full array of CollegeBoard approved courses.
