What is Career and Technical Education?

Career and Technical Education (CTE) refers to educational programs that prepare students for careers in various trades, technical fields, and vocational industries. These programs combine academic learning with hands-on training in specific career paths, such as healthcare, engineering, information technology, construction, and culinary arts.

CTE programs are designed to help students gain the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in their chosen professions. They often include a blend of classroom instruction, practical experiences, internships, and certifications that align with industry standards. CTE can take place in high schools, technical schools, community colleges, or apprenticeship programs. In our case, we offer an entirely online CTE program!

The goal of CTE is to equip students with the technical skills and work-ready abilities necessary for the workforce, offering an alternative or complement to traditional college education.

Online CTE?

CTE programs align with 16 Career Clusters. Those clusters contain over 79 sub-groupings called Career Pathways. Many schools use these career pathways to develop CTE curricula that enhance career readiness and job skills. While some pathways won’t transfer to online, Market Square Education is pleased to announce the establishment of 2 entirely online CTE pathways: the Family and Community Services Pathway and the Restaurant and Food Services Pathway. We are also working hard to develop several other online pathways for students.
