It’s that time of year when we start getting questions about “Math Jumps.” That’s the term for taking a whole year of math over the summer, so a student can, “jump ahead” to the next level of math the next school year. For example, a student takes Algebra 1 in 9th grade. They would take an entire year of Geometry (2 semesters – 1 full credit) in the summer between 9th and 10th grade so that they can begin Algebra 2 in 10th grade.
Because our courses are asynchronous (which means no live scheduled class time), a student can take an entire year of a course over the summer. Not just a shortened, abbreviated version of a course which may leave out concepts they will need in the future, but the full 2 semesters of material. Our courses are designed for a student to work at their own pace through the material, and a student could finish a semester in as little as 5 or 6 weeks. Our courses can be worked around other summer activities like sports or vacations.
Math Jumps aren’t for every student, though. A student is most successful at a Math Jump when they want to do it and are good at scheduling their time, prioritizing their schoolwork, and working independently. It’s a big load to take a full year of instruction over the summer months and some students find that it’s too overwhelming to complete. And that’s OK! A Math Jump isn’t a necessity to have a successful high school career, or get into a good college.
If your student is interested in a Math Jump, they can register at any time and begin as soon as the course is paid for. There is no need to wait for specific enrollment dates. The earlier in the summer they can start, the better.
