School can be challenging for many students to the point that by high school, it’s unclear whether they will be eligible to graduate. This can be as a result of a prolonged injury or illness, or learning differences that may have been caught later in a student’s academic life. Alternatively, a student may learn best in a non-traditional educational setting. Whatever the case, Market Square Education (MSE) has solutions for these students. We know and understand the importance of providing accessible ways for your child to be successful and we work diligently to provide those options to any student who needs them.
Two programs in particular that we offer are Open Doors and ALE (Alternative Learning Experience). Both programs are publicly funded which means they are free to families and students. The advantage however, over traditional publicly funded schools is that they provide flexibility not otherwise not offered to public school students. We also have a variety of course offerings available.
ALE
ALE is an online, publicly funded education program created to provide alternative strategies for students to graduate from high school or receive their GED. Families and students can partner with us to access this option.
This program runs on a traditional school cycle of September through June with the option of moving to private-pay during the summer months if desired. Weekly check-ins are required which help ensure that students are staying on pace as is required in order to maintain monthly eligibility requirements. Our teachers will guide you through the entire process to ensure that the appropriate level of support is provided to each student.
Open Doors
Open Doors is also a state funded program. This is a drop-out, re-engagement approach for students between the ages of 16 and 21. Open Doors is structured to encourage community partnerships, offering several ways for students to succeed and provides an avenue for post-secondary achievement through a performance based, individualized support model.
To be eligible, students must have a credit deficit and must have turned 16 by September 1 of the current school year. This program requires monthly meetings with school staff and a monthly cohort meeting. Students are eligible for this program ten months out of the year.
Each year, tens of thousands of Washington State students participate in state funded alternative education programs as a method for achieving graduation or a GED. Market Square Education understands that students have different educational needs and learn in different ways. We are committed to finding the solution that fits each student’s needs.
