What the heck is a math jump anyway? When I started working at Market Square Education 7 years ago – I had no clue what it was! A math jump is when a student takes a whole year of math in the summer time to “jump” ahead. So if a student is finishing Algebra I in school, over the summer they complete Geometry. This allows them to “jump” into Algebra II at the start of the next school year. Seems easy right? Well for the right student it can be!
Parents – keep in mind – your student will be completing what would normally take a whole school year (10 months) over the course of a summer (usually 2 months). Students who excel in math generally take between 30-40 hours to complete each semester. It’s doable over the summer but takes planning. The average student spends between 40-60 hours per semester to complete the course.
We have seen the biggest success when the student is the one who initiates the jump. If your student is asking for it, chances are they’ll complete it. Students who are pushed into a math jump by others tend to be the ones who end up not completing the course.
So – how do you sign your student up? Its super easy! Go to Enroll Now (right hand corner), sign up for the first semester of the math class your student wants to take. We will get them started the same day. Once they complete the first semester, enroll for the second semester right on our website, and they can continue working without delay.
Once enrolled, parents and students receive 2 weekly progress reports. These are invaluable to make sure your student is progressing sufficiently.
At the end of the summer when your student is all done we can deliver the official transcript to your student’s school of record for you. You’ll receive instructions when the course is finished so you don’t need to remember it right now.
