I get it! We send you A LOT of emails with A LOT of information. So what should you be paying attention to and what should you hang on to “just in case”?
If this is the first time your student has taken an online course through Market Square Education, it’s important to make sure both you and your student read the Welcome Letter that was emailed on the day the course started. Even better – bookmark the page on our website for easy reference. Check in with your student once they’ve been in the course for a couple of weeks to make sure they are turning in their work correctly. This varies between courses – so it’s good to know. The number one issue our teachers have is students not turning in their work correctly. We need to whole thing (copy and paste the ENTIRE assignment).
Now to the emails…
After enrollment you get at least two emails weekly if your student is in a course housed in Apex. Thursdays you get an email from me – it’s a progress report. Sunday you get an email from Apex – another progress report. These two combined help you understand how your student is progressing. If everything looks good – these are the emails to file away – just in case.
Now if your student is taking a course housed within Canvas – you don’t get tons of emails. At the beginning you received a course invitation. Accept the invitation. This allows you to log in anytime and see your student’s progress. I would recommend checking in every couple of weeks. These courses don’t have due dates – so make sure your student is making progress. Also it’s a great idea to put the completion date in a calendar and set up some reminders. These courses don’t have due dates to help remind students to keep plugging away.
From time to time I send an email to your student and cc the parent and teacher. These are important. It usually means something isn’t happening that should be. These emails require attention. It’s always helpful when parents help the teachers get the student back on track.
