Alternative Learning Experience (ALE)
Bringing quality education to students who need another option is the purpose of this program. A flexible and structured system is built that expand district offerings and benefit student learning.
- Creating a Program. School districts and MSE build a program that match the needs of students and each communities.
- Funding. Student FTE is attached to the host district. These programs are free for students to attend.
- How it Works. A school district contracts with MSE to provide a program and instructional services that deliver curriculum, certificated and endorsed teachers, and connection to students. It follows the State guidelines and requirements that include Student Learning Plans, weekly contact, and monthly and credit reporting.
Types of Program
Three types of ALE allow districts and students the most options to deliver curriculum to students.
On-Site
"On-site" ALE students have the most face-to-face contact with their teacher. The in-person communication between the student and the teacher improves a personalized approach and increases support and accountability. Weekly instructional check-ins are required, and students have access to work in the study lab at Market Square Education.
Stronger connections with the student, teacher, and course content often are the reasons students are successful.
A full-time student takes at least five courses. A part-time schedule is encouraged if a student would benefit for any reason.
Remote
"Remote" ALE students work independently and away from school. Their courses may be delivered through an online course, textbook, or independent studies. Weekly contact with their teacher is required and can be in the form of video chats, emails, text messages, or phone. If the student is local, our study lab at Market Square Education is available.
For students that need to work remotely but would benefit from weekly contact with their teacher, "remote" is a stronger option for students.
A full-time student takes at least five courses. A part-time schedule is encouraged if a student would benefit for any reason.
Online
"Online" ALE students access all their courses online. Weekly contact with their teacher is required and can be in the form of video chats, emails, text messages, or phone. If the student is local, our study lab at Market Square Education is available.
For students that seek greater autonomy and are self-driven, this approach has been successful.
A full-time student takes at least five courses. A part-time schedule is encouraged if a student would benefit for any reason.
